SwingBox Frequently Asked Questions
When the SwingBox® is installed, what is the distance between the top of the box (closed) and the side truck rails (and tailgate)?. How far below the rails is the top of the SwingBox®?
The SwingBox sits below the edge of the rails and the tailgate by approximately 1 and 1/8 inches. This is normally plenty of space to operate virtually every tonneau cover out there including the "Roll N' Lock" tonneau cover.

Will this toolbox work with my "Roll N' Lock" Tonneau?
We have done a number of installations of the SwingBox® with the Roll N'Lock Tonneau Cover and have no problems with installing the toolbox to work in conjunction with this cover. As of this date, we have not encountered any problems installing the toolbox in conjunction with any cover. However, we do not currently have any direct experience with the toolbox working with with other "roll-top" covers like the Pace Edwards, and other brands.

What are the outside dimensions of the toolbox?
Your SwingBox® is 48 inches long by 13 inches high by 20 deep (48L x 13H x 20D). This means there is a total of 8 cubic feet of storage inside of The SwingBox!

Has SwingBox® been written up in any industry publications?
Most recently, in the February 2003 issue of Masonry Magazine compared all types of toolboxes out there and said the following about SwingBox®: "For ease of access, perhaps nothing beats a swing-out toolbox." They went on to say, "Swingbox provides the same bed space as standard boxes while featuring roller bearing rotation, more cubic foot capacity than most truck-mounted toolboxes, and easy access to the box contents, either within the truck bed or when the box is swung over the tailgate. The Swingbox also makes a handy field workstation while in the extended position. It's easily installed and removed, has padlock anti-theft security, allows space for storage of long plandks in the truck bed, and even enables the use of a gooseneck hitch for fifth wheel trailers! Oh, did we mention, that the Swingbox comes in diamond pattern aluminum. Maybe diamonds are a contractor's best friend?

What do you mean by "Padlock Anti-Theft Security"?
This means that you can simply and easily lock the SwingBox to your truckbed to make it virtually impossible to be removed. On the passenger side there is a "pull pin" (basically a hinge pin) where we have provided a slot towards the top of this pin that allows you to lock the pin in place with a padlock. You simply place a padlock through the top of the "pull pin" on the passenger side. Once you do this, you actually lock it is virtually impossible to remove The SwingBox from your truck.

Does the lid on the toolbox lock? Does it require a padlock or is there a lock installed and we provide keys?
There is an integrated lock on the paddle latch on the SwingBox Lid.

What is the clearance under the box for Long Board Storage?
The height underneath the toolbox is approximately 3½ inches. This will allow you to carry long items in your truck without removing The SwingBox!

1. Unscrew Bolt at latch called the "Holding bolt."
2. Open swingarm (swing tool box out) and hold up end.

I have a sprayed-in bedliner in my truck, do I need to do any modifications to my truck to install The SwingBox?
No. In every instance we have encountered to date, the bedliner will act as your spacer on the side. In this case a "shim" will most likely not be necessary.

I have a Plastic bedliner in my truck, will I need to make any modifications of my bedliner to install this toolbox?
Yes. In most cases you will not have to modify the bedliner at the side walls. However, the frame of the SwingBox that is mounted to your truck needs to have metal to metal contact with the floor of the truck bed. This means that the floor portion of the bedliner will need to be trimmed away by 3 1/2 inches to ensure that the base of your SwingBox frame can mount directly to the bed of your truck without having the bedliner between the frame and the bed of the truck. When you leave the plastic sides of the bedliner in place, these often act as perfect spacers so shims are often not necessary. The process to trim your bedliner is a simple one. To trim your bedliner, simply follow the following steps:
1. Carefully measure 3½ inches from the inside of the closed tailgate on both sides and along the bottom (the entire width of the floor of bedliner).
2. Using a straight edge, mark a line along the floor of the bed.
3. Slide the bedliner out the truck (enough for you to work on).
4. Using a "roto-tool" (i.e. Dremel), a jigsaw, tin snips, or a carpet knife, simply simply trim off the floor (bottom) portion of the bedliner 3½", leaving the sides in place. (this is to ensure there is a 3½" space between the back edge of the protector and the tailgate.
5. Once the bedliner is trimmed, simply slide the bedliner back into the truck and you are now ready to install your SwingBox!
We have done MANY installations with plastic bedliners and this process has worked on each and ever one! However, we anticipate that one day, we will encounter a plastic bedliner won't fit too well on the sides and we may have to trim the sides also by the same 3 1/2 inch distance and mount this frame directly to the truck bed. If that is required in your instance, simply follow the process described above, and trim the side of your plastic bedliner also.

Will I have to modify the plastic portion of my bedliner that covers the inside of the tailgate (the tailgate liner)?
Some plastic tailgate liners coverings may be too thick for proper installation of The SwingBox. Before drilling any holes in the truck bed, verify that the CENTER LINE of the holes to be drilled into the bottom of the truck bed are less than 5/8" from the forward edge of the mounting surface (edge toward the truck cab). If the distance is greater than 5/8", then you must remove the tailgate liner to properly install The SwingBox. The Part called the "Bed Doubler" may not fit correctly if the bolt hole centerline is too far forward.

When the toolbox is removed, how thick is the frame that is left behind on the truck (how thick on the sides?). How thick at the bottom? And the sides?
The frame that is left behind is approximately ½ inch thick at the Bottom and ½ inch thick on the Left (Driver's) side. The frame is about 3 inches thick on the right (Passenger) side where it hinges

How many holes must be drilled to install The SwingBox?
A total of 7 holes must be drilled to install the frame that mounts into your truck to allow The SwingBox to work properly. 3 holes are drilled into the truck bed. 2 are drilled on each side. This permanently secures the frame to your truck.

Tricks of the trade as to how to level the frame with shims and how to know you have the right alignment.
If the box hits the strike when closing The SwingBox, you can remove a shim from the upper right of the frame. This will pull the left end up and the box should no longer hit the strike.

You claim that the SwingBox® works with many Goose Neck/5th Wheel trailers. How does this work?
The SwingBox® works with virtually all Goose Neck trailers as the neck of the trailer goes over the tailgate and the toolbox, easily clearing both to ensure that the toolbox does not interfere with the turning of the trailer whatsoever. The SwingBox® works with many 5th Wheel trailers, depending on the angle and design of the trailer.

How would I attach my Goose Neck/5th Wheel trailer to my truck while the toolbox is installed?
First of all, PLEASE EXERCISE CAUTION HERE! Due to differences in Goose Neck measurements, please be careful when backing up to the trailer to avoid any damage to the truck, the toolbox or trailer! It is the responsibility of the truck owner to determine the safest way to attach the trailer while avoiding any problems! We suggest the following two processes to attach a goosenect trailer:
Process 1:
a)Open tailgate and rotate the Swing Box to the deployed position
b)Back up under goose neck far enough to rotate Swing Box to stowed position
c)Back up the rest of the way and attach the goose neck to the truck
d)Close tailgate
Process 2:
a)Open tailgate and rotate Swing Box to the deployed position
b)Back up under goose neck at an angle that allows the Swing Box to operate freely, and attach the goose neck to the truck. (This allows enough clearance to operate the SwingBox®.
c)Rotate SwingBox® to stowed position and close the tailgate.
